Extended Family Session

Updated: May 5, 2021

Sometimes we book a session months or even more than a year in advance. Then we meticulously plan and brainstorm and prep and prepare. And sometimes we don’t. Hahaha!

This session came together fast! Abby’s brother-in-law received a surprise military leave right around Thanksgiving. No time to waste! We needed to move at lightning speed and create wonderful family portraits to cherish.

Abby was so excited to get her extended family together for photos at her place of business, The Barn III. She suggested the beautiful barn doors as the backdrop for this session. So cute, right?! Brought over by European settlers, red barn doors are a special piece of Americana. You’ve got to love their iconic presence!

It was a cold, early December day when we all gathered at The Barn III, but the chilly weather didn’t stop us from having fun! Armed with a family photographer’s staples (a squeaky baby toy, a smile, and an alter ego who was probably a court jester in a past life), I enticed the kids to share their best smiles.

The Barn III, a lovely multi-use venue and home to the Conklin Players, had its grand opening in February of 2019. Be sure to check it out! We photographed the barn by itself for Illinois Wesleyan Magazine last spring!

We always love working with Abby, and we look forward to future photography projects for The Barn III and the Reel family.
